What is Rocket yoga?

Dynamic and fast paced power yoga for those who want to get there faster!
Amazing for upper body, core and leg strength, detoxing and stress relieving, it’s the ultimate full body workout.

The Rocket system is considered the original power yoga. It was created by Larry Schultz of ‘It’s Yoga’ in San Fransico in the early 80’s. After 9 years studying directly under the legendary Sri Pattabhi Jois, the founder of Ashtanga yoga, Larry was looking to make the practice more accessible to a Western practitioner.

It was first called "Rocket Yoga" by Bob Weir of The Grateful Dead, because Weir said, "It gets you there faster." Larry went on tour with the Grateful Dead developing the system to keep fitness levels whist focusing and calming the mind.

Is it for me?

Having a reputation for being challenging, yet accessible to everyone, success comes with practice and repetition. Creating your own inner fire and heating muscles internally with your breath, the benefits of this system start to show up quickly with a consistent practice.

Rocket Yoga has attracted a wide following including: Willem Dafoe, Madonna, Sting, The Grateful Dead, and Christy Turlington.

How does it differ from different forms of yoga?

The Rocket takes away the hierarchy of traditional yoga systems and empowers practitioners of all levels with access to postures found in the more advanced Ashtanga series. This innovation earned Larry the reputation as the “Bad Man of Ashtanga,” a fact he loved to share with the thousands of people who fell in love with the Rocket, and Ashtanga, through his teaching.

The routines are specifically structured to open the body in a natural way and work through the joints and muscles systematically.

As well as creating an energetic, cardiovascular workout that strengthens the body, develops the core, increases flexibility and improves balance and posture, the routine brings calmness and clarity to the mind.
